Jerseyville
is just a short drive northwest from Alton. The town is named after
the early settlers who migrated from New Jersey in the 1800’s.
With its 124-foot dome, Court House Square overlooks the main street
and historic homes of the community. Many of the unique houses are
open for tours. The
downtown shopping district is a reminder of days long past. Fine
Country dining can be found here, and festivals and fairs are held
throughout the year.

Jersey
County Courthouse: A leisurely walk along the historic
Courthouse Square offers many unique Gothic & Victorian style
buildings. Erected in 1893, the Courthouse on Pearl Street sits

Cheney
Mansion: As one of the first houses built in Jerseyville,
the Cheney Mansion is a 12-room mansion featuring vintage clothing,
military artifacts, toys, pictures and other items of historical
interest. Serving as the Jersey County Historical Museum, the mansion
is available for touring. 618-498-4613
Lone
Star Schoolhouse: Completely refurbished, the Lone Star
Schoolhouse is a real one-room schoolhouse of yesteryear available
for prearranged tours.
Fulkerson
Mansion: Built in 1866, the Fulkerson Mansion houses Civil
War artifacts and a variety of antique farm equipment. Tours are
